INTERNATIONAL ENCOUNTERS #4

Lecture by Andy Horwitz

What does it mean to be an artist making performance in 2018 and what will it take to survive? As longstanding accepted structures for cultural production continue to erode, how does the artist frame their identity, their work and create new ways to achieve sustainability? How does the self-conception of the individual artist intersect with the ever-shifting cultural frameworks of the 21st century and what is the role of the artistic imagination in shaping (or resisting) the tides of social, politic and economic change? Writer/Producer Andrew Horwitz will discuss these questions in a lecture drawn in part from a paper he co-authored in 2014 called “The View from Here: A Report from the Brooklyn Commune Project”, and subsequent writing, teaching and work experiences.

New Production Strategies for the Choreographic Sector

The Danish choreographic sector is undergoing rapid developments. Choreographers, dancers and other artists dealing with choreography, establish new artistic constellations, new work- and production formats, engaging their audiences in new and innovative ways. All this at the backdrop of a difficult financial situation; Basically more artists sharing an ever dwindling budget for performative arts. Artists and producers find new ways of collaborating, applying new business models and finding new strategies to develop sustainable models for production.

The event series International Encounters is organized in collaboration with Dansehallerne and Statens Kunstfond. #statenskunstfond #kunstgørenforskel
