Join us in talks about the mapping in Aarhus, Copenhagen and online

Join us in industry conversations about UP's mapping of the independent field in the performing arts in Aarhus and Copenhagen in the end of April – or join the webinar with Danish Theater in May

In January 2025, UP conducted a survey among producing performing artists who work without a permanent stage. The survey was answered by almost 300 professional actors. You can now read the full report here.

Join us for a series of industry conversation as UP presents the report's key findings and insights, and discuss the results together. We want to hear the industry's perspectives on the survey and to nuance the further debate on the report's findings.

UP offers the event in Aarhus together with Performing Arts Platform and at Udviklingsplatformen in Baldersgade in Copenhagen. Finally, we also offer the presentation on a webinar in collaboration with Danish Theatre.

The presentations will be in Danish, but it is possible to ask questions in English. We recommend that you read the report before the industry dialogue.

Participation is free, but registration is required.

Where in the country does the independent performing arts exist?

What are the challenges and potentials for the independent field?

According to UP's mapping, we now have figures and comments on all these questions and many more, which together paint a picture of the independent performing arts field in Denmark.

The survey was conducted by UP in collaboration with Danish Theatre and the Danish Institute for Cultural Analysis during the winter of 2024/25.

Behind the survey

In January 2025, UP – the Development Platform for Performing Arts conducted a questionnaire survey aimed at professional, independent creative and project-supported performing arts actors (companies or individual artists) without a permanent stage, who realise works under their own direction. The aim was to gain concrete and measurable insight into some of the complex economic, production and structural conditions that characterise the work and development of performing arts in the independent field.

The survey was answered by almost 300 professional actors, and it forms the basis for a new report prepared in collaboration with Danish Theatre, the Danish Institute for Cultural Analysis and with professional sparring from BARC Scandinavia.
