The Theatre Seminar

What is the Theatre Seminar and how do you participate?

A trade fair and a networking meeting.

The Danish Theatre Associations' annual Theatre Seminar is the country's largest marketplace for performances. This is where the vast majority of shows suitable for touring are bought.

Touring performances are pitched on the big stage and the conference hall is a busy networking spot. It is an important event for companies that want to tour with their performance.

Read ISCENE's article from Teaterseminar 2024 here.

At the seminar you will find three areas:

Main Stage
On the main stage, producers present the upcoming season's touring performances to theatre associations and other promoters. They each do this with a five-minute pitch.
Conference hall
Afterwards, producers and organisers (sellers and buyers) can meet at the tables area in the conference hall for a chat before choosing what to buy for the coming season.
The three intimate scenes
On the three intimate stages, you can either show half-hour excerpts of selected performances, facilitate a debate or present other possibilities for cooperation.

How to participate:

You can participate both with a registration directly to The Danish Theatre Associations, but also with UP.

The Danish Theatre Associations send out invitations with a ticket link every year early September. To get on the mailing list for the Theatre Seminar, you must contact the DT secretariat at post@danmarks-teaterforeninger.dk. In recent years, the seminar has sold out in a short time, so be quick when registration opens.

You can also participate for free with UP. If you apply for the Danish Arts Foundation's ‘Touring Network Denmark’ scheme, you can also apply to participate in UP's preparatory workshop for the seminar, where you also get free tickets and transport.

Want to know more about how to join UP at the Theatre Seminar?

JOIN US AT THE THEATRE SEMINAR

UP offers a preparatory and qualifying workshop leading up to the seminar, where we give you know-how about touring and provide you with concrete tools to realise the tour in Denmark.

In addition, we will prepare you to pitch and sell your show to one or more of the country's many enterprising theatre associations when the seminar takes place: you will have the opportunity to practice your pitch beforehand and receive targeted feedback and tools to improve the way you pitch.

At UP's preparatory workshop, you'll also hear presentations on selling touring shows at the Theatre Seminar and have the opportunity to ask questions to previous participants.

HOW TO JOIN US

Apply for admission to the Theatre Seminar with UP via Turnénetværk Danmark on kunst.dk

...Yes, it's very confusing, but that's how it works:

The Danish Arts Foundation's project support committee for performing arts selects groups for the touring scheme Turnénetværk Danmark, which ensures that smaller works can go on sustainable tours around the country and that the theatres presenting them receive a deficit guarantee.

When you apply for the scheme, you can tick that you want a place on the joint stand for independent groups at the Theatre Seminar (which is UP's stand).

WHAT YOU GET
  • Free upskilling workshop for one person.
  • Free participation in Teaterseminar for one person as part of a shared stand.
  • Five-minute pitch on the big stage.
  • Transport for one person to and from the Theatre Seminar, including food and accommodation.
WHO SELECTS THE PARTICIPANTS?

The selection of the participants for UP's Theatre Seminar workshop and participation in the Theatre Seminar itself is made solely by the Danish Arts Foundation's Project Support Committee for Performing Arts.
